Organisations join forces to help Worcestershire residents keep warm

3:00pm Tuesday 7th February 2012

WITH temperatures plummeting over the last week, Warmer Worcestershire Network is supporting county residents to keep warm and well.

The Warmer Worcestershire Network is made up of public and voluntary sector organisations including Worcestershire County Council, public health, district councils, Age UK, Act on Energy and Herefordshire and Worcestershire Fire and Rescue Service.

The network is developing a range of projects, supported by the Department for Health, to help people keep warm during the cold weather.

Among the network’s projects are training for front line staff to spot the signs of fuel poverty and to make referrals, and temporary emergency heaters for vulnerable members of the community, if heating systems fail.

Residents receiving support services in the home through the public or voluntary sector will have the option to be referred for further energy advice, and offered support to help keep their home warm and bills down.

There is also a free energy advice phone line and home visits delivered by Act on Energy, the local energy charity, a telephone alert system for vulnerable residents when cold weather is forecast, and free cavity wall and loft insulation for residents over the age of 60 until the end of 2012, while funding lasts, with funding provided by the county council.

The overall aim is to keep individuals warm and well during the winter months, as heating the home correctly can have added health benefits.

For more details about the network’s services call the free Warmer Worcestershire advice line on 0800 988 2881.
